The 'Rochester layer', which is the name of this device, was developed by John Howell, a physics professor at the University of Rochester, and graduate student Joseph Choi. The geometric properties of the optics facilitate, through the millimetric arrangement of each of the lenses that make up the device, the non-visualization of an object that is introduced between them.
